Wood loses and acquires moisture.
Wood is a living material, sensitive to the constant changes within its surroundings. It suffers in particular ways to variations in the humidity of the air and adapts itself accordingly to a certain extent. If a piece of wood is placed in a very hum

Listone Giordano The Solution for Radiant Heat Systems
December 3, 2004
Do you have a radiant heated floor system? If so Listone Giordano engineered hardwood is the ideal solution for you. Radiant or in-floor heating systems exert additional pressure on wood floors up to 8x more than normal forced air systems. Furthermore, because the heat comes through the floor it can dry out solid wood flooring more quickly than forced air systems. This will often lead to shrinkage of the strips and warping in the floor. To solve this problem some people may suggest installing a solid wood floor with a plywood sub-floor or a floating floor installed over a vapor barrier foam underlay. At first these may seem like viable options, but they defeat the very purpose of radiant in-floor heating. The plywood or vapour barrier underlays actually hinder the transmission of heat that is supposed to be coming through the floor and can sometimes create air pockets under the wood.
The solution, Listone Giordano. For over 25 years Listone Giordano has been used over radiant heat systems in Europe. Listone Giordano engineered wood was developed to withstand the added pressure exerted by infloor heating. The support layer, marine birch, will counteract the hardwood's tendency to shrink thus stabilizing the overall structure of each strip. This means the flooring will not shrink or warp the same way as solid wood. Furthermore, with Listone Giordano glue-down installation method, you can install the hardwood flooring directly over the sub-floor containing the radiant heat system. The transversal notches or incisions on the support/back layer of Listone Giordano give the floor flexibility and also allow for a more efficient heat transmission. Thus, Listone Giordano works with your radiant heating system to maximize its performance.
Therefore, it is easy to see that Listone Giordano engineered hardwood is the ideal solution if you have a radiant in-floor heat system. Furthermore, European Hardwood Flooring Centre has a flawless track record of installing Listone Giordano over radiant heat systems. In fact, we can proudly say that we have installed over 100,000 square feet of Listone Giordano engineered hardwood over radiant heated floors throughout Ontario. |
